F. A. Q.'S
Is Great Leaps right for my child?
Great Leaps was written to move students to an independent reading level (roughly between fifth and sixth grade.) If your child is reading above that level Great Leaps is not the right program for your child. This level of proficiency is used for several reasons; most everyday reading such as newspapers and such, are written at this level and when a student reaches this level they are reading independently and, most importantly, do not slide backwards. They have, in essence, learned to ride the bike!
Great Leaps can work with many different learning challenges and has been doing so for more than 20 years. If you have specific questions about your child's needs, contact me and we can discuss if this program is the right fit for your child.
Why 5 days a week?
A person's average attention span is between 6-8 minutes. By keeping the sessions short and engaging, Great Leaps works within a child's attention span. We work daily because reading is a skill and to learn best requires daily practice.
What type of environment does my student need for their tutoring sessions?
Your child will need to be seated in a comfortable place, relatively free of distractions. In this day and age of wifi and mobile hot spots you can take the show on the road, so to speak, and I can work with your child wherever they are that day; there is no need to lose out on your session for the day just because you are visiting family or watching a ball game! Simply bring your screen with you and if you can get internet we are good to go!
