He Learned to Read the Words. Then He Shared Their Meaning.
Sharing the Gospel through literacy.
When I first began incorporating Scripture into reading instruction, I asked parents whether they were comfortable with it.
Ben’s mom initially said no. A few months later, when I met them in person, she explained that her family didn’t attend church. They weren’t opposed to it; she simply worried that Ben might feel lost when Scripture was introduced.
I assured her that he didn’t need any prior experience. We could learn together.
Ben began reading and discussing Bible verses as part of his reading instruction.
Then, a few months later, his mom sent me a message that I will never forget.
At baseball practice, she had overheard Ben talking with a teammate who was having a hard time. Ben encouraged the boy that he didn’t have to be perfect, because Jesus was perfect for him.
Ben had taken what he was learning and used it to encourage another child.
This is why I do what I do.
I believe literacy can be about more than learning to read. It can create opportunities to share God's Word, demonstrate His love, and help children carry that message into the world around them.
What could we make possible together?
I'd love to meet with you and explore how your church could be part of this mission.
